Our Story

Fire, Teff & Time-Honoured Craft

Hordofa Lodge began with a simple promise — food you have never tasted before, made the way it has always been made. Our injera is baked each morning, our berbere is ground in-house, and our meat is cut fresh in our own butchery before the doors open.

From the smoke of the coffee ceremony to the sizzle of tibs arriving at the table, everything here honours the Ethiopian table: generous, communal, and unhurried.

From Our Own Butchery

Cut Fresh Every Morning

Most restaurants buy meat. We raise the standard — our own butchery hangs whole sides of beef in the cool room, and every burger, tibs and qurxuumi starts there. Freshness is not a claim here; it is the daily routine.

Cut every morning

Sides of beef arrive and are broken down in-house before service begins.

From hook to fire

The same cuts you see hanging are the tibs and burgers on your plate.

Chosen by hand

We select whole animals from trusted highland farmers — never frozen.

Kind Words

From Our Guests

The doro wat tastes like a holiday at my grandmother's house — deep, slow berbere and injera baked that same morning. This is our family's celebration table now.

Hanna T.

Regular since our first year

You can genuinely taste that the meat is cut in-house. The Ioji Special is the best burger I have had anywhere in Ethiopia, full stop.

Samuel G.

Burger devotee

The coffee ceremony alone is worth the visit. Candlelight, incense, a jebena poured tableside — pure theatre, and the buna itself is unforgettable.
